A Child's World For Learning.

Summer is a time for kids to be kids, yet fun and engagement can co-exist!

As a parent or caregiver, when summer vacation hits, it’s bittersweet. On one hand, it’s nice because the usual school-time schedule can be eased and you all can fall into a rhythm of more sleep and less rigidity, yet on the other hand, all of this free time can lead to boredom and disengagement.

At Community Education Group of Antioch, Minnesota Ave, and Good Hope Road are three convenient locations for the leading DC preschools and early education centers. We’re full into summer, so how are your little ones faring? Get tips on how to increase their engagement this summer!

Summer Engagement For The Preschooler

Preschool and early education programs are the perfect way to help transition your child into DC’s public school system — it provides a safe place for structure, learning, and fun all while following DC’s Common Core curriculum. And, whether your child is making the final transition to public school or they’re just embarking on their educational journey, the summer is the perfect time to increase their engagement and keep their brains active!

Academic regression does happen, and it’s often seen in the summer. Without the consistency of school, there can be losses in achievement that can stifle success later down the road.

The best way to eliminate this loss is to help keep your kid active and engaged. It just takes a little time and a little more effort as a parent or caregiver to help give your child the best.

Life Beyond The Couch

It is easy to let your child veg on the couch in front of the television or playing video games, so it’s first important to work with your child to figure out a summer schedule that you can both agree on.

It’s vital to find activities that play to your child’s interests and strengths, so have a conversation with them and ask them what they might like to do.

As you’re brainstorming, keep a running list of things you’ve come up with and subtract and expand on it as the summer progresses.

Let’s get the wheels turning with a couple of fun summer activities.

Create educational outings!

One of the best ways to engage your little one is to get them out and into the world. DC is one of the greatest places to explore and learn with your child. Here are a couple that are in the area.

Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute

This is one of the greatest places to explore with kids to explore animals and different attractions, and the best part, it’s free! This is the perfect destination to see some pretty incredible animals that spark engagement!

DC is the place to be when it comes to exposing your child to rich historical and diverse experiences. There are so many more things to explore when it comes to keeping your child engaged over the summer, so look for part two soon!
