Some Questionable Toddler Behaviors that Are Actually Normal

As parents, it’s normal to feel concerned when your child exhibits what outwardly looks like a concerning, even dangerous behavior, especially when they also show these as they receive childcare in Northeast Washington, D.C., and not only at home.

Fortunately, most of the time, these behaviors are just normal developmental changes and not a cause for worry. That said, you still have to ensure that they can slowly grow out of these behaviors per our experts in our education research group in Washington, D.C.

As a provider of preschool in Southeast, Washington, D.C., we at Community Educational Research Group are listing down some of these questionable behaviors that are actually quite normal all things considered, and why they happen. These include:

  • Taking his clothes off at home and in public
    • Why they happen:
Unfortunately, your child does not understand the concept of modesty at their age. They also do not know the difference between public and private behavior at this point.
  • Hitting himself when he’s upset
    • Why they happen:
Hitting himself is just one of the self-harming behaviors that children will do to make sense of their feelings when they can’t do so verbally.
  • Shoving everything on his nose, mouth, or ear
    • Why they happen:
Your child is excited about the environment around them, including his body and this shoving behavior is just part of this exploration.
  • Reading the same books over and over again
    • Why they happen:
This repetition serves several purposes–it shows them what they like and don’t like, it helps them develop communication skills, and shows them that they can count on certain things for comfort.
